In addition to the LP, Palmer has partnered with the collaborative art-team Kahn & Selesnick to create a companion volume of over 50 theatrical photographic portraits taken in and around Palmer’s new upstate New York home she shares with her husband, writer Neil Gaiman. The portfolio - also titled THERE WILL BE NO INTERMISSION – will be available exclusively in hardback to Palmer’s patrons as well as in a softcover edition at her hugely anticipated world tour, set to circle theaters around the globe in 2019-2020.

A più di sei anni dall’ultimo album solista, Amanda Palmer torna con ‘There Will Be No Intermission’, l’atteso nuovo disco di studio in arrivo l’8 marzo per Cooking Vinyl/Edel Italy e disponibile in pre-order da oggi dal sito amandapalmer.net. In contemporanea, verrà pubblicato anche un libro di fotografie ed illustrazioni realizzate dall’artista stessa.
Terzo disco solista, ‘There Will Be No Intermission’ è il progetto più personale ed intimo realizzato dalla poliedrica artista ad oggi, con brani che toccano argomenti delicati e profondi quali la vita, la morte, il dolore ed il senso di esso. Mentre i temi affrontati possono apparire cupi, le liriche che accompagnano i testi sono invece travolgenti, quasi un inno alla vita. “Most of these songs were exercises in survival. This isn’t really the record that I was planning to make. But loss and death kept happening in real-time, and these songs became my therapeutic arsenal of tools for making sense of it all.” afferma la Palmer.
Registrato in un solo mese a Los Angeles dal vincitore del Grammy John Congleton (già al lavoro con l’acclamato ‘Theatre Is Evil’ del 2012), ‘There Will Be No Intermission’ è stato interamente sovvenzionato tramite una campagna di crowd-funding attraverso la community hub patreon.com
Ad anticipare il nuovo lavoro, il brano ‘Drowning in the Sound’, scritto dall’artista con l’ausilio di alcuni commenti da parte dei suoi fan sul suo blog, su temi inerenti l’uragano Harvey (molti dei suoi fan si sono trovati senza casa per via dell’uragano, pochi giorni prima che la canzone prendesse forma), i cambiamenti climatici, l’incertezza politica, l’odio dilagante sui social, Taylor Swift. La canzone combina le strambe abilità al piano di Amanda Palmer con un coro che sembra quasi rendere omaggio a Prince ed Ani DiFranco.
Nel disco troviamo i contributi di Congleton alla produzione, Max Henry alle tastiere, Joey Waronker alla batteria, Jherek Bischoff al piano (oltre ad Amanda) ed agli arrangiamenti che accompagnano da una traccia alla successiva.
