Elle Coves shares new single and video ‘Lost Cowboy’, which is available now on Platoon. It’s the hotly-tipped 19-year-old’s first single from an all-new debut EP to follow early next year, with ‘Lost Cowboy’ given its live debut recently in Coves’ tour with Cate.

An epic, at times scathing country-pop anthem, ‘Lost Cowboy’ is Elle Coves’ playful but empowered twist on the Western narrative of the damsel in distress (“do us both a favour and get back on your horse”). “I was on a walk, and I had that sentence ‘are you lost, cowboy?’ and I kept it in my phone for the longest time,” Coves says of the track. “My grandpa used to always watch old Western movies so it was very fun to lean into the cowboy aesthetic.”

The rousing single is accompanied by a brilliant video Elle Coves shot in Nashville, further inverting archetypal traditions by playing her own, male love-interest.

Well versed in the Wild West of Gen Z life, Elle Coves has caught immediate attention since she started releasing music earlier this year. It’s an outlook that’s been shaped, no doubt, by an unorthodox bringing, having been born in Germany to Spanish parents before moving to Ireland at the age of thirteen.

A natural nomad - and self-confessed introvert - music proved something of an early mouthpiece for Elle: she recalls scribbling lyrics in the margins of her study books during class, and recording melodies in the bathroom during lunch-break. Whatever she lacked in social confidence, however, Elle Coves quickly made up for on stage: she has spent the last few years juggling her studies with local gigs in support of the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Wild Youth and Moncrieff. Elle channeled all this into early releases like ‘Before I Fall Apart’, a cinematic coming-of-age banger that, far from falling apart, in fact sounds like a breakthrough.

On her hugely accomplished upcoming EP, influences range from the stadium rock of Haim or the razor-sharp modern Americana of Kacey Musgraves to the anthemic pop of Maggie Rogers, and have already earned Elle Coves a deeply-engaged online audience.

A songwriting talent way beyond her years, ‘Lost Cowboy’ rides the anxieties but also the exhilaration of youth. Watch out for much more from Elle Coves to follow soon.
