Marthagunn - Heaven

Dopo ben 18 show da headliner in giro per il Regno Unito e una serie di date europee a supporto dei Palace, i MarthaGunn tornano con il nuovo singolo ‘Heaven’. La band annuncia inoltre un nuovo tour da headliner nel Regno Unito che terminerà al Courtyard Theatre di Londra.

Il precedente tour da headliner si era concluso con un sold out al Sebright Arms di Londra e questo singolo è la celebrazione di un anno fantastico per i MarthaGunn. “Heaven”, prodotto da Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice, The Amazons), esalta le incredibili doti canore della front-woman Abi Woodman ed è uno dei brani preferiti dai fan durante i loro live. “Heaven” racconta la paura del cambiamento e la difficoltà nell’allontanarsi dalla propria comfort zone per qualcosa che potrebbe essere migliore.

La stessa Abi rivela: “I am not comfortable being comfortable. I always want more. Sometimes I don’t know whether to accept the beauty of simplicity or to self-sabotage to find something greater. When I wrote ‘Heaven’ I was playing out a fantasy in my head and exploring a path I could only dream of taking. A few years on and I have stopped living in fantasies. I go after everything my soul desires. Heaven is a song for anyone dreaming of something more.”

Parlando della sincerità dei suoi testi, Abi continua: "When I was growing up, I wasn’t exposed to any female artists that really spoke to me. I guess that’s where I found my voice in the lack of someone saying it for me. I love artists like Carly Simon and Christine McVie who say things so explicitly, but I didn’t have someone to look up to that was of my generation. It feels great to now be making music amongst a generation of women who say it exactly how it is."

La band dei MarthaGunn è formata da 5 migliori amici: Abi, Max, Humphrey, Ally e Frankie. Si ispirano a band come i Fleetwod Mac, i Mystery Jets e le Haim e nel corso di questo ultimo hanno perfezionato le loro performance dal vivo. Il loro primo tour da headliner li ha portati in giro per il Regno Unito, sono stati scelti da Steven Knight per esibirsi al Peaky Blinder’s Festival e hanno partecipato ad altri festival come The Great Escape, Bushstock e Citadel Festival. La band ha anche ottenuto il supporto di John Kennedy su Radio X e questa estate si è esibita al suo evento X-Posure Live, affiancando proprio i Mystery Jets.
