Gran ritorno per Willy Mason:
l’artista americano pubblica oggi ‘Youth On A Spit’, il primo brano tratto da ‘Already Dead’, il nuovo album in arrivo il 6 agosto,
a nove anni dall’ultima pubblicazione, il primo con Cooking Vinyl.
‘Already Dead’ è il quarto album solista di Willy Mason, che ha debuttato nella scena indie americana a soli 19 anni,
facendosi ben presto notare tra concerti e lunghi tour in apertura a Bright Eyes.
Il suo disco del 2004, ‘Humans Eat’ ed i suoi singoli sono tuttora inseriti nelle classifiche dei classici del Regno Unito.
‘Already Dead’ segue ‘Carry On’, il disco del 2012 prodotto da Dan Carey con il quale Willy Mason ha poi suonato in tour con Ben Howard.
Il nuovo album, in arrivo il 6 agosto, è anche il primo lavoro interamente scritto e registrato da Willy Mason nella sua abitazione a Londra
e vede Noel Heroux alla produzione


Di questi tempi sembra ci sia ben poco in cui credere; le bugie superano le verità, ed anche la verità può risultare pericolosa. ‘Already Dead’ esplora l’onestà e l’inganno, l’anonimato nell’era digitale, le buone intenzioni, la libertà, il colonialismo, l’amore e la fede in dio perché, aggiunge Willy Mason, è il momento di ripristinare un po’ di fede tanto necessaria.
“Already Dead is a spiritual state to aspire to; it is freedom from the trappings and inhibitions of one’s ego, culture, and mythology. It is freedom and love and freedom to love in the face of death. It’s about the necessary destruction of one’s mythology; mythology of species, sex, race, nation, self. It’s about the pain and tragedy that comes with such destruction, but also about the freedom, possibility and opportunity for reconciliation; reconciliation with the natural world and with each other.” – Willy Mason.
Il singolo pubblicato oggi, ‘Youth On A Spit’ è sicuramente tra i brani più d’impatto di Willy Mason, il quale afferma, della traccia: “Youth On A Spit is about the struggle for freedom and identity that comes from growing up in an advertising based culture. The refrain ‘you can’t kill me im already dead’ is about the liberation that comes with disillusionment”
