Irish quartet The Academic re-enter the fray, unveiling their glorious new single ‘Aftertaste’, a confidently bouncing 80’s influenced indie pop track that builds on the commercial and critical success of their gold selling debut album ‘Tales From The Backseat’ released in 2018 ,which has already near on 40 million streams. The track, brimming over with the synchronous nostalgic and refreshing sound The Academic's growing legion of followers have come to adore, won’t take more than a few seconds to implant itself in your brain.

Touring relentlessly over the past 18 months, has seen the band grow an ever increasing, dedicated and almost cult like following. Nominated for The Choice Music Prize album of the year in their homeland with their debut album, their reputation as one of the most exciting new young live bands in the music scene hasn’t gone unnoticed with acts including The Strokes, Twenty One Pilots, Foals, The Kooks and more recently The Rolling Stones asking the band to open for them while on tour.

Alongside critical praise from the likes of The New York Times, The Independent and The Irish Times, not to mention key support at BBC Radio 1 from Annie Mac and a Huw Stephens, the four-piece have also been earmarked by BBC’s Phil Taggart as one of Ireland’s biggest emerging acts, drawing welcome comparisons to fellow Irishmen Two Door Cinema Club amongst others.

Aftertaste was co-produced by the band alongside Dublin producer, Cormac Butler, Aftertaste is a tantalising teaser of what we can expect from the band’s second album which is expected in 2020.

Speaking of ‘Aftertaste, frontman Craig Fitzgerald says ‘When it came to ‘Aftertaste’ it was a lot different to how we worked before. From a production standpoint we were a lot more involved. Sometimes there is a preconceived notion out there that if you are a guitar band, you should be in a particular lane. Our mindset when writing, is less defined by what the stereotype of an indie band should sound like and be more about letting our songs be the best they can be
