Dopo ‘Youth’ e ‘Lazy Giants’, Ásgeir svela oggi ‘Pictures’, il nuovo brano tratto da ‘Bury The Moon’, l’atteso album in arrivo il 7 febbraio su etichetta One Little Indian/Audioglobe/Caroline International.
Il video mostra Ásgeir immerso nella natura islandese, quasi un omaggio alla sua terra ed alla connessione dell’artista con le sue radici, musicali e personali. A proposito di ‘Pictures’, l’enigmatico ed introverso artista afferma: “The lyrics paint pictures of daily life, from when we wake up and go to work and how our dreams come alive in the nighttime. It also depicts the importance of not thinking more of your country than other countries / or yourself over other people, and the importance of unity between people.”
Circa il video che accompagna la pubblicazione del brano, Ásgeir dichiara: “The director (Einar Egilsson) came up with this idea of doing something with references to old western movies. We felt like the song was kind of split in half, the verses are melancholic and sad while the choruses are more hopeful and so the video expresses those conflicting emotions on the screen. The plot follows a man that is free for a while but is then captured by this sheriff character. The verses show the man when he has lost his freedom, but the choruses show him when he is free.”
In ‘Bury The Moon’ l’acclamato artista islandese dimostra la sua crescita personale e musicale, con testi impegnati e musiche che ne raccontano le evoluzioni.
Enigmatico ed impenetrabile, Ásgeir, ha raggiunto il successo ed il grande pubblico con la pubblicazione in inglese di ‘In The Silence’, il disco di debutto che, originariamente pubblicato in lingua islandese, rimane ad oggi l’album più venduto in patria.
‘Bury The Moon’ – Sátt’ in islandese – arriva in seguito alla fine di una lunga relazione di Ásgeir ed il suo successivo bisogno di trascorrere del tempo in solitudine, circondato dai bellissimi paesaggi islandesi. Ritiratosi nella casa delle vacanze estive, lontano dal mondo e dalla società, Ásgeir ha passato l’intero rigido inverno a scrivere e comporre i brani che hanno poi dato vita al nuovo disco in arrivo il 7 febbraio, una riflessione sull’amore e sulla perdita. “I took my guitar, a small keyboard, and a very simple recording set up. Nella stesura dei testi Ásgeir ha collaborato con il poeta e padre Einar Geor Einarsson, già presente anche nell’acclamato album di debutto. La traduzione dei testi in inglese è stata successivamente eseguita da John Grant, songwriter americano da anni residente a Reykjavik.
‘Bury The Moon’ è la presa di coscienza e l’accettazione, per Ásgeir, dei propri difetti, ed un ritorno alle sue origini folk-roots: “I’m looking forward to seeing the reactions, and how it sits with people. I wanted to take the project back to its roots, in a way, and make it more about honesty: honest songs with strong melodies and lyrics.” – Ásgeir.


Classe 1992, Ásgeir è ad oggi l’artista che ha più venduto nella storia della musica islandese - superando i giganti in patria come Bjork e Sigur Ros – con ‘In the Silence’, l’acclamato disco di debutto pubblicato nel 2012 da One Little Indian, Album of the Year agli Icelandic Music Awards dello stesso anno. Il disco, pubblicato in lingua islandese, coglie l’attenzione di John Grant, il quale aiuta Ásgeir nella traduzione dei testi in inglese per una successiva pubblicazione internazionale di ‘In The Silence’. Tra folk-melodico e pop sopraffino, Ásgeir conquista il mondo, con concerti esauriti praticamente in ogni angolo del globo, dalla Sydney Opera House allo Shepard’s Bush Empire fino alla London Union Chapel. Il successivo album, ‘Afterglow’, esce nel 2017, sempre su etichetta One Little Indian, e conquista nuovamente i favori di media e pubblico. Un lavoro monumentale, intimo e sopraffino che non delude le aspettative dei media e dei suoi numerosi fan.
La pubblicazione di ‘Bury The Moon’ è accompagnata da un lungo tour in Europa, Inghilterra ed America. Presto maggiori novità per l’Italia.
