La cantautrice franco-israeliana YAEL NAÏM ha fatto davvero molta strada da quando nel 2007 il suo brano "New Soul" è volato in cima alle classifiche di Billboard dopo che Steve Jobs lo ha scelto per il lancio del MacBook Air, facendola diventare la prima artista israeliana ad arrivare nella Top Ten americana.

Oggi pubblica un nuovo brano “How Will I Know”, primo estratto dal nuovo album di inediti NightSongs in uscita il 20 marzo, via Believe Music.

Il percorso della scoperta di sè è un viaggio che travolge ogni artista. Questo è certamente il caso della franco-israeliana, ma nata a Parigi, Yael Naïm. I suoi album precedenti, OLDER (certificato disco d'oro in Francia), SHE WAS A BOY e il debut album del 2007 che portava il suo nome, sono stati tutti co-prodotti insieme al marito David Donatien.
NightSongs, invece, è stato interamente arrangiato e prodotto dalal sola Yael, facendolo, quindi, un album assolutamente e completamente suo.

“I realized I’d never dared create a musical project on my own - completely alone, with my moods, feelings and failings. I also had a period of turbulence where everything seemed to shake around me, and I wanted to capture that in the music that I was making,”, afferma Yael ricordando un periodo della sua vita in cui ha dato alla luce il suo secondo figlio e ha perso il suo amato padre.

Dopo il grandissimo successo di “New Soul” e dopo aver vinto diversi premi e riconoscimenti (tra cui Best Female Pop Singer nel 2016) ai Victoires De La Musique – il corrispettivo francese dei Grammy Awards – Yael ha iniziato a scrivere questo album che ha rappresentato un viaggio alla scoperta di sè. “Writing at night, when no one sees you, you can do things that aren’t allowed. I had what I called ‘night feelings’ and songs that I eventually called NightSongs” ha detto spiegando la genesi del disco. “The new album is certainly darker too. But then, I love darkness. Some light can only be heard in the darkness. Some music can only be heard in silence.”

L'idea dell'accettazione - delle circostanze, di sè stesso, delle relazioni e, in generale, della vita - è il punto focale dell'album. L'aspetto introspettivo e la natura intima delle liriche sono in perfetto equilibrio con gli arrangiamenti fatti da Yael. La chiave di tutta la struttura di NightSongs è l'uso della voce - sia la sua che dei cori di Zéné che è presente indiverse tracce.

“One thing I learnt during the process of making this record is that if you stop pretending that you are Superman, then people will tell you that they feel the same way as you. When that happens, it’s amazing,” afferma Yael. “It proves that we are not alone.”.
